G20 2025 SUMMIT

SOUTH AFRICA

In 2025, the M20 hosted its inaugural summit in Johannesburg, South Africa which culminated in the M20 Johannesburg declaration. To date, the declaration symbolises a unified front of 66 organisations, and counting, dedicated to ensuring the pillars of democracy and human rights are no longer sidelined in the ever-evolving digital space. 

The declaration was formally handed over to South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa on 19 November 2026. 

The M20 story

As media systems face increasing pressure from disinformation, economic instability, technological disruption, and political interference, the M20 is a global civic initiative seeking to ensure ensure that issues affecting journalism and information integrity are addressed in the G20 policy agenda.
