As part of World Press Freedom Day events, the M20 hosted its first webinar in a series of five planned for the year. This webinar, co-hosted with the Centre for Information Integrity in Africa (CINIA), reflected on the state of media freedom today. The discussion explored key threats and emerging risks in 2026, and considered solutions to safeguard independent, sustainable journalism in an increasingly complex and ever-shifting information environment. The webinar was introduced by CINIA director Herman Wasserman. It featured a panel discussion moderated by Janet heard, with contributions from Rawan Damen from ARIJ Network, Yemisi Akinbobola from African Women in Media, Zecharias Zelalem, an award winning freelance journalist and analyst, and Anya Schiffrin from Columbia | SIPA.
